Waterproofing is the process of making an object or structure to be water-resistant so it remains relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions.
Water resistant and waterproof often is being referred to penetrate water in its liquid state and possibly under pressure, whereas damp proof normally refers to resistance to humidity or dampness.
Often used in building structures (basements, decks, or wet areas), watercraft, canvas, clothing (raincoats or waders), electronic devices and paper packaging (such as cartons for liquids).
In modern times, items may be waterproofed by the application of water-repellent coatings or by sealing seams with gaskets or O-rings. Such items can be used in wet environments or under water to specified depths.

Water Repellent Solution: Get expert advice from our paint professionals
Water Repellent Solution (EF) is a solvent-based impregnating agent based on silane/siloxane mixture. It serves as high-quality impregnating agent for exterior concrete protection and also can be used as a primer for silicone emulsion paint for masonry substrate. It can reduce the capillary absorption of construction materials without blocking their pores and capillaries. Therefore, it will not affect the diffusion permeability. As a result, water vapors can escape unhindered from the masonry, and any damp can dry out.
Product:
Product Features:
• Excellent depth of penetration, creating a broad water-repellent zone
• Excellent resistance to alkaline and efflorescence – the hydrophobic zone prevents salt, water and alkaline being transported from within the wall to the surface
• Good water-vapors permeability does not affect the breathing behavior of the substrates
• Prevent damage caused by Chloride-induced reinforcement corrosion
Technical Data
Drying Time: 1 hour
Recoating Time: 1 day
Dry Film Thickness: Not applicable
No. of Coats: 1 coat
Theoretical Coverage: 10 – 12 m2 per liter per coat (Actual coverage is dependent on substrate condition, application method, application condition and finishing appearance)
It is recommended to go for actual application to estimate the practical coverage for project
Volume Solid: Not applicable
Shelf Life: Up to 12 months in tight sealed container.
Application Method
Brush / Roller: Apply 2 pass wet-on-wet
Flooding (by lower pressure spraying):- Apply 2 pass wet-on-wet (Highly recommended for optimal paint film performance)
Surface Preparation
Remove all powdery residues, loose chalk, dust, fungus, algae and foreign matter. Treat any areas affected by fungus growth with Fungicidal Wash Solution. Repair cracks, uneven surfaces with suitable exterior grade fillers. Smoothen the filler areas with sand paper. Surfaces to be painted must be cleaned thoroughly and dry, it must be free from dirt, grease and other foreign matters. Allow all surfaces to dry completely prior to painting. Avoid painting when the moisture content and alkalinity of the walls are still high. (Recommended painting specification requires the moisture content of the walls to be below 16% measured by protimeter and alkalinity of the walls to be below pH9.) Spot prime with Water Repellent Solution.
Safety Precautions
• Keep container tightly closed and keep out of reach children or away from food and drink.
• Ensure good Ventilation during application and drying.
• When applying paint, it is advisable to wear eye protection.
• In case of contact with eye, rinse with plenty of water immediately and seek medical advice.
• Remove splashes from skin by using soap or water.
• Paint must always be stored in a cool place.
• When transporting paint, care must be taken. Always keep container in a secure upright position.
• Dispose off any paint waste in accordance with the appropriate Environment Quality Regulations.
Cleaning
Clean up equipment with water immediately after use.
With the countless problems that come from water seepage and leakage, Nippon Paint caters to solutions that protect and prevent from unwanted breach of water. Guard the integrity of your building by keeping your interior and exterior areas dry with durable and seamless heavy-duty coatings.
