Nippon coating solutions-Why are sealers and primers so important?

Nippon paint Malaysia provides complete guide to painting, Coat your wall faster, smarter and better with the Nippon coating solution or coating system.

What is a primer?
A primer is a paint; a coat of paint that is applied directly to the bare substrate. The word ‘primer’ means ‘first’ and in this case it is the first coat to be applied to the timber, steel or other surface to be coated. The primer is the most important coat of paint a substrate receives.  The main functions are:

To provide excellent adhesion to the substrate for the new paint system.
To provide protection to the substrate until it can be topcoated.
To inhibit moisture reaching the substrate.
To provide adhesion to non-ferrous metals and to stop these metals from corroding.
        To prevent steel from rusting.

What is a sealer?
A sealer is designed to be used prior to, or in place of a primer. Sealers are special primers designed to perform some of these functions:

        Provide good adhesion

Recondition poor substrates such as crumbly old concrete tiles.
Seal off any surface porosity to prevent subsequent coats from sinking in, resulting in a non-uniform finish. The porous substrate needs to be ‘filled’ or ‘sealed’. This ‘sealing’ of the porous surface evens out the porosity of the surface. Such a ‘sealed’ surface will allow the topcoats to appear more even, resulting in a more uniform gloss level over the finished surface.
        Block off stains.
        Seal waxes in the substrate.

Paint the right foundation with our specialized sealers and primers.
Applying sealer on bare, unpainted concrete walls ensure better performance and adhesion for your new coat of paint against the weather.
Applying sealer on painted walls grants your exterior walls excellent adhesion and weather durability.
Applying sealer on bare, unpainted concrete walls ensures the adhesion of your new coat of paint and prevents efflorescence – a common wall issue.
Applying sealer on painted walls ensures perfect adhesion and provides better hiding for your new coat of paint.
Applying sealer on wood surfaces will ensure adhesion of your new coat as a basecoat, while primer will greatly improve paint adhesion.
Applying primer on metal surfaces will ensure better performance as a basecoat and improve adhesion of your new coat.
